Obituary

Georgia Maurine Boswell Gunn was born February 22, 1925 in Richfield, Utah. She passed away June 27 2011, in Cedar Hills, Utah, of complications from a stroke.

Maurine was the sixth of ten children of Stephen Roy Boswell and Zina Armina Huff Boswell. Maurine had a sunny, cheerful disposition; she had many friends and enjoyed a happy childhood in Richfield until the sixth grade. Her family moved to Provo, where Maurine graduated from Provo High. After World War II, she met Fred Gunn, who had served as a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corp. They were married October 11, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. During their 33 years in the Air Force they lived all over the world – United States, Guam, Okinawa, Panama.

She enjoyed her service as president and vice-president of the Officers Wives Club. Because of her Christlike example she introduced many to the gospel. Maurine was a gracious hostess as she entertained people from all over the world as well as many military dignitaries. In 1975, Fred retired and they moved to Provo. Maurine enjoyed being back in Utah to spend time with her extended family, never missing an important event. She was a peacemaker and a calming influence in our lives. She taught us patience, love and charity by her example, as well as determination and faith while enduring to the end.

Maurine is survived by her husband Fred of 64 years, her children, Gregg (Cindy) , CA.; Georgette (Tim) Hainey, NY; Gordon, Orem; Gary (Jean), Highland; Glenn (Lesa), Orem; Gerrilyn (Doug) Mason, West Valley City; 20 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Calvin, Orem; George, (twin brother), Ruth Lambert, and Ralph, of CA; and Priscilla Baird, TX.

Preceded in death by her parents; siblings Gladys, Eugene, Howard, and Phyllis Louise, and grandson Joseph Hainey. The family expresses appreciation to the staff at The Charleston of Cedar Hills and Linda and Cris of Utah Home Health for their kind and loving care of Maurine.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11:00AM at the Grandview South 18th Ward at 1360 West 1150 North in Provo, Utah. Friends and family can pay their respects at the church on Thursday evening June 30, 2011 from 6PM to 8PM and on Friday from 9:30AM to 10:30AM. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, Utah at 4:00PM on Friday July 1, 2011.

We love you grandma! You were such a great example to us! We can’t wait to be with you again! – Hudson & Vanessa

Mom, we will all miss you so much! Thank you for everything you did for me and the family! I love you!

One of the best memories I have of mom is when I was twelve years old and we lived in Panama. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she would sit with me on the sofa and listen to Andy Williams christmas songs every day during the holidays. It became a treasured time together – just me and her – especially when fighting for attention with 5 other siblings! Ask my kids to this day what my favorite christmas music is and they’ll tell you – Andy Williams! -Love, Glenn (Son)

  1. Dear Grandma,
Brad ,Brady, Landon and I are visiting your grave today. It’s a beautiful spring day in Beaver. Landon just picked you a dandelion. I’m sure you were the one who sent him down to me! It’s comforting to know you and grandpa are together again but we sure miss you both very much. We love you!
    Love, Melissa and family
